Impact

Despite the severe barriers and challenges faced by the individuals served by our New Start program, our work is having an impact and recidivism is being reduced. From October 2013 – December 2024, the following results have been achieved:

  • 214 justice-involved individuals have been enrolled in the New Start program

  • 157 individuals have graduated (74%)

  • 131 of the 157 graduates have secured employment (83%)

  • Approximately 78% of program graduates have not been reconvicted three years following their release from incarceration

  • At the cost of approximately $36,000 per year to house an inmate in Delaware’s prisons, the graduates who are sustaining success are saving the State of Delaware approximately $3M per year and are now contributing, tax-paying citizens
